Hey guys, can you offer some advice? I'm not living or working in the EU/ US but I am moving to NYC in December. Should I contact retouching agencies overseas and ask them to ftp work in the time being? Thanks Last edited by women'sdesk; 08-08-2011 at 07:28 AM.

You want to work with NYC retouching houses that do fashion, but you don't want any more work? Uhm, good luck? |

Re: Looking for Work I think you should do all of the above. Why not? There's nothing to lose. I don't know how much retouching gets done by the magazines themselves inhouse, I would guess very little, but again, that's a guess. It never hurts to contact the photographers directly. Some of them use multiple retouchers, depending on the project. From my experience, most of the retouching studios in New York won't get back to you unless you're based here already. Before I moved here I contacted lots of them with little to no response. When I was actually living here, I was up and working almost immediately. Best of luck to you

Re: Looking for Work No problem You might try checking the NYC craigslist and look for postings seeking retouchers. Sometimes it's a decent photographer with an editorial story but with little budget for quality retouching. I got a pretty great editorial that way before moving to New York, since I had, prior to that, primarily worked in the advertising sector (Cars mostly, and the occasional bottle of water haha Also check twitter. Search "retouching" or "retoucher". Sometimes I'll see photographers lamenting the fact that they're having to retouch a story when they'd much rather be out shooting. I totally know where you're coming from as far as wanting to focus on the fashion and beauty side. It oftentimes doesn't pay as well as the commercial stuff, but it is WAY more fun and fulfilling to work on.

Re: Looking for Work Oh, you're one of those that think they're too good to post samples to the public, huh? That's cool.
