Online retouching tutuoring.

Online tutoring...

I have been asked by a few people if I could do this. I have always declined.

But lately I have been wondering if this would work.

I guess my question is, how would this work? Anyone have ideas?

It should not be a problem in this day of video conferencing, and on line communication.

Any suggestions would be cool.

As a side note, I have been retouching to all the large agencies, and well known photographers since the early 70's. I teach people how to retouch the correct way. Not how to use photoshop.

Look forward to your suggestions.

Jeff

Re: Online retouching tutuoring.

I think this can be worked out. I will build a website in the next few weeks.

And add conferencing, lessons and such.

I will also work out pricing structures.

Thank you for input. I would like to see more.

Re: Online retouching tutuoring.

The market for beauty and fashion retouching tutoring becomes a little saturated, so it seems. It would be great if you could enlighten us on product (hard surface) retouching. Automotive retouching would be even more interesting to me, but that is very tricky and specific.

Re: Online retouching tutuoring.

I have been retouching autos since the 1970's. And still work with Ford, Jeep, Chrysler, BMW and Bentley.

I also do a ton of product retouching.

There will be group tutorials as well as one on one.

And you are right. Beauty and fashion is covered, But in my opinion, not very well!
I am talking high end here, the top publications, including covers.

It will take a while, I expect to have it up and running by the new year. But first I need to set up a dedicated forum. That will find out needs of you (the client).

It will also have dates and costings, as well as levels.

Looking forward to it.

Jeff

That sounds very interesting, I'm sure you are able to add something worthwhile to this market!

If I could be of any use to you (I'm a web developer eager to learn the ins and outs of retouching) just let me know.

Re: Online retouching tutuoring.

I would be interested, particularly on the product/auto side of it and any advanced color techniques. However if the price for tutorials are high, I will be less inclined... so perhaps the group tutorial is a good idea.

Re: Online retouching tutuoring.

I have not worked out costings yet. But there will be a "one to one" option, a "group option" and a "open class option".

Re: Online retouching tutuoring.

A start page will be opening very soon. Here I will start announcing classes and info.

It will be very basic first of all, but will give me an idea of what is wanted.

As I said before, these will be aimed at people that want to work within the high end retouching world. Your clients will be the agencies, design companies and the top photographers within the advertising world.

This is where the high budgets are.

Re: Online retouching tutuoring.

At the moment, it is just looking for interested people. They can join the forum. And get involved. As well as letting us know what they want and need. So far only one person has commented. If there is no interest shown, I will not bother.

It really is up to other people.

I have a pile of work in the studio. So I have plenty to do. I do not have to start teaching, it is just that so many have asked.

The ball is not in my court. LOL!

I understand that you are busy and you are responding to interest. It simply was not apparent what you are looking for in terms of showing interest... I guess you are saying that joining your forum is what you need from us. Will do.

Re: Online retouching tutuoring.

if there are some peoples, who are interested, you can make a group class for them to start with them, so they can contribute further in ur formus to explore what you are offering and try to get more n more retouches for ur classes. atleast any starts need to take ur project at a good level.

Re: Online retouching tutuoring.

hi Jeff, just a few thoughts.

I was participating on a few webinars. Some were down via adobe connect, some via upstream. some paid, some free. all of them had the possibility to chat. mostly there was the tutor and a person watching the chat. while the tutor showed the retouching people could ask questions in the chat and the chat-watching person could give the questions to the tutor and he could answer right away or show the solution . Very perfect.

I agree with Sergy, to make a preview or a tryout session. So people know what to expect. There are tons of tutorials, free to watch, so if you want to charge you should give a preview. Maybe to make in the beginning some short clips to show some hints or give an overview what to expect in your classes.

Looking forward to hear more about this project!
Dani
