Work-Life balance as a high-end retoucher

I've been working in NYC both freelance and in house for a few years now. I'm trying to get to a level where I don't have to work so many hours (as in I'm always working 50-60 hrs a week non-stop). I do appreciate learning a lot from the big retouching houses, but who wants to eat breakfast lunch and dinner at work all the time? Just curious how everyone else is living and making a living. I miss my life outside of work.

it is a tough balance, I have a wife and a daughter who really miss me because of the stupid hours we have to put in. I sometimes wish I never chose this career. I say just make the best of the time you have off, go outside.

I feel like my response was a little bitter, sorry. I just see a lot of my friends getting let go by their companies and there are no jobs for them. You have to "take what you can get" now, after putting in 15 years learning a trade. Lots of compromises.

I feel the same way, a little bitter and wondering why we have to work so hard for the man. I guess it's this industry that demands tight deadlines all the time. There's so much more to life though. I really miss the other aspects of it and am wondering how much longer I should pursue this career. What happened to the 40 hour week? Jeez!
