Re: www.potoforio.com, comments please

I'm not a fan of Flash sites, but yours is a very good application of that technology.

The text on the actual content pages is too small and flat for my old eyes and my browser controls do not work because it is Flash. I got lost while browsing your portfolio since I didn't catch the small instruction to click the arrow to return to the home page. Perhaps a house icon, which is more universal, would work better. I nearly missed the before/after for the same reason.

Your work is exemplary, far beyond my capabilities.

Thanks for sharing.

Re: www.potoforio.com, comments please

I visited your site and here is my take on it.

The site structure

I'm not a fan of Flash and because of that I'm overly critical of Flash based sites. However.... your site is fairly quick loading, and the navigation scheme, I found to be clear and unambiguous. Good job.
I liked the small hints on the use of the "before/after" link, the arrow to go back etc. I don't think anyone is going to get lost in it...
The option to do a mouse-over is quite appropriate even still I would have preferred to see the before and after side by side. And since you load both the before and after when one does the mouse-over the "thumbnails", the behavior is quite "snappy". It just works well.

The content

Very, very nice work with a couple of overdone examples.
The shot of the mouth (I don't know how else to describe it since it is Flash based I don't have any idea what the url is... do you see the problem?) in the first page of the photo retouching section is in my opinion, over the top. The skin no longer exists, in its place we have plastic...

The other instance (the same issue...) is the shot of the eye in the second page of the retouching section. In this case it is even more obvious since you elected to barely retouch above the eye, under the eyebrow.

But, off course I'm "nitpicking".... the fact remains that I would give my left arm to be as good as you.

Nice work. Really nice.

The site navigation is a bit of a guessing game at first but once you get it, it is no problem. Loads fast, clean graphics.

Good job!

Site is nice and intuitive. Nice to have the instructions there.

On nearly all of your skin work you have lost to much detail and shadow end got a little ghosted out/soft. But that might be what the client asked for?

Stills look nice.

Yes, that's a point you get paid because you are doing what the client wants,

I'm going to add some "not too smooth skin" retouches to my site,

Bear in mind that if I'm retouching the skin for customer from beauty industry (mainly for skin cosmetics) the client wants to show that the product works.

The second problem with skin retouched for printing on litho presses, depending on enargement of the image in borchure it's possible to get some unwanted results because: the skin texture is small and sometimes it "fits" to raster used in litho 4c printing - and than the results are not ok,

Alex
