Talking A simple website looking for feedback please

I made a 'simple' and basic photo restoration website. www.pixelfix.co.nz I would appreciate some feed back on how it appeals visually to people and how easy it is to understand and navigate. Many thanks for your help.

Hi Pixelshaw, I like your site. The design is clean and navigation is fast and easy ... All important information in one place.

The next question is - is your site ready for iPad/iPhone and other similar devices?

Thanks for looking creativeretouch., and for the positive review. Unfortunately it is not formatted for mobile phones. The ipad, iphone and android devices though should be able to view the site natively without further formatting.

Re: A simple website looking for feedback please

Would anyone else like to give some feedback on my website? I need to make sure that I have all the relevant information and that there are no obvious errors. Many thanks for looking.

Re: A simple website looking for feedback please

Pixelshaw, looks good overall. The only thing I would point out is the "Make a Free Website with Yola" button at the bottom of the pages. If you can remove that, great, because free websites tend to be associated with hobbyists, not those running businesses.

And I notice your URL changes slightly when the Blog link is clicked (??). Perhaps the blog existed before your main site?
____________

Filip, yes, the copy on your site needs a little cleanup and editing to flow better for English speaking visitors.

But I wonder if your business model is viable (ie, selling subscriptions to access a list of web links)? And any bookmarks you collected starting back in 1994 are surely out of date by now! ;-)

I used to have something similar on my own site but now use it mainly for my own convenience (it's not linked from my other pages, and many of the links are probably out of date by now).

Thank you, pluginspixel - would you help me to clean up my text if I will give you free acces to my directory?

In 1999 i created this site:

http://fashiondiary.com - so I have experience with old links you can find them there

Within my directory I have only active links and more specialised - If someone does not want to pay a lot of money for DVD's he will be able to learn these techniques from my directory - as everything is on the internet (or almost everything) - but you have to spend a lot of time to find it. This is the Idea of my site - to keep everything in one place - and personally I think the fee I ask for is acceptable for almost everyone ...

Re: A simple website looking for feedback please

Fashion Diary is cute! Not fun to navigate, but cute.

OK, why not. Here is my recommended text:

"The internet is a huge place and it can be a bit daunting for retouchers and photographers to locate the specific resources they need, in a timely manner. I have been actively searching for and archiving links relevant to our industry since the early days of the internet (1994).

More recently, I have organized about 150 of the most important of these links on a simple web page with easy navigation. The site is compatible with all internet-capable devices (computers, mobile phones, iPads, iPhones, etc.) using any web browser. Since the internet is constantly changing, this page will be continually updated to maintain accuracy and usefulness.

You can gain access to this password-protected resource for a subscription fee of $10 per year. Upon payment, you will receive the necessary login information."

That is great - I would not write something like this in my (czech) language

I have sent your login details to your email ... Please could you confirm you have received it?

Re: A simple website looking for feedback please

Thanks a lot pluginspixel. Firstly the site requires payment for removal of the 'yola' branding. Which i am considering. The URL changes due to the blog being held at blogger.com and the rest of the site at yola.com but I can't have the same domain point to 2 different places so hence the difference. I have now got everything looking the same so the visitor is unlikely to notice. Thank you very much for your time and opinion, it is much appreciated.
creativetouch I am not the world best at grammar or spelling I got my girlfriend to read through mine and correct my spelling. But your site looks simple and straightforward from the outside. I have no idea what lies inside unfortunately. I would however suggest that a better way to display your portfolio of images might be more proffesional. There are many image hosting sites that can provide a slideshow widget for you to display your images on a website. Good luck with your business.

Re: A simple website looking for feedback please

Thanks for the update. Since our discussion I've seen one other retoucher's site with the same yola branding.

Re: A simple website looking for feedback please

It is a really useful website but I will eventually remove the branding. There are a few restoration sites I know of over here in New Zealand that are designed and hosted using them. Some have now removed the branding once there site is earning a little money. Me too I hope

No worries, sounds like a plan. It's minor.

Pixelshaw, thank you for your opinion. This site is not visible from the "public" side (http://creativeretoucher.com) so I do not wish to display any pictures there. This has been made strictly for people who are looking for real professional resource of informations. You can check the Facebook link or Twitter link - I will post "Link of the Day" there so people can get impression of the quality of links inside. Curently I am working on my new portfolio but to create really good portfolio will take years ... I started to learn 3D as well ...

Thank you for your kind offer, the company i use for hosting does not cost a lot for hosting so it isn't a major problem. They also offer site backup and easy site building.
