Re: My updated website!

Hi Alina,

Are you looking for constructive feedback? I will address your site itself as the photography is good and your retouching seems fine.

1) The layout is huuuuge! I'm viewing it on a 27" iMac and it almost fills the entire screen at default size. Most people will only see a fraction of it.

2) I don't personally like Flash-based websites. The navigation is difficult at best, like playing an arcade game (catch the photo before it goes by!).

3) The spacing between menu items is not even at all (some words clump together).

4) When looking at the enlarged samples, the "X" to close the image is not always visible, so I feel trapped.

5) Your English is much better than my Russian, but you need to do a lot of correction on your About page for the English-speaking target market. For instance, "I pride myselves" should be "I pride myself"; "RAW format fails" should be "RAW format files"; "Your images won't be re-publish, before your permission to do that" should be "Your images won't be republished without your permission"; etc.

Hope that helps!

? I'm on a smaller mac (with Firefox 8.0.1) and this wasn't a problem...the window resized dynamically. I just updated my flash player (10.2) yesterday...

For e-mail addresses I prefer to mung them. Which hides them from bots...

Re: My updated website!

Good point, I run my browser large and didn't try resizing. Even so, it was way larger than other common sites I am used to viewing. Right now I'm on an iPad and can't view the site at all, so there's another reason to avoid Flash...

Re: My updated website!

On a 21" iMac the layout now seems much smaller, so it's not so much of a problem anymore. BTW, resizing the browser window (either Safari or Firefox) does not resize your site's content, which seems static.

Re: My updated website!

I offer a small suggestion: why use a hotmail account? It would appear more "professional" to have an email address like, "alinaholli@AlinaKovban.com", or something like that.

Re: My updated website!

I have a few areas you may want to address:

The images are dynamically being enlarged, which is a good thing in my mind, the problem is I feel the images do not have enough resolution to be viewed very large (I'm viewing at 1900x1200). If you're clients won't be using super high res monitors it won't make a huge difference, but for those that are they may be slightly disappointed that they can't make out a lot of the fine detail. I would look at using higher resolution images or adjusting your compression settings. If that doesn't make them clearer, it could just be a result of the dynamic resizing and not much to be done about it.

Also, I did notice the menu items bunching up. It's fine on half of them but the spacing is way off on the right side.

Keep pluggin' away! You're almost there!

Awesome suggestion Nasturtium! I'm totally going to do that on my site (which is a "work in progress") Thanks for posting that link!

Re: My updated website!

The site looks pretty good. Your retouching skills are great. I think all of the changes are simply things to the site itself, not your photography work.
