Shot this little critter outside my bathroom window with the digital camera. I'm just not sure whether it's a butterfly or moth or just what.

Very nice image. You have capture some nice detail. I am pretty sure that it is a moth and I believe that it is the Polyphemus Moth - (Antheraea Polyphemus).

Good image, rare opportunity to photograph - yes it is a Polyphemus Moth - sometimes referred to as a silkmoth. I found a pair in a birch tree in my yard last week and photographed them for almost an hour.
There is a very informative web site featuring these beautiful creatures, maintained by Bill Ochlke at ochlkew@islandtelecom.com. He provides lots of detail about their life cycle.

Hey thanks so much you two....I hate to have a photo of something and not know what it is...thanks for the website too ullen, but I clicked on it and it takes me to an email window.

They are so unique and this one just sat there while I took it's picture...I kept thinking it would fly off any minute but it didn't.
