Colorizing is harder than it looks; and to pick the detailed portrait you did was courageous. You did a very, very good job. I'm impressed.

This is superb workmanship, I'm totally blown away by it. Any tips? I could always do with some colourising help.

Thank you all for the nice comments.
Timbo, the best tip I can give is to think about coloring photos as a painting. Artists use a multitude of colors, with individual areas made up of several colors blended together. Many colorists have a tendancy to pick one color for each element, such as blue, for the sky, when actually there is a range of colors there. Don't limit your palette.

This is a fantastic coloring, one of the best i've yet seen. Nice image to use, very effective, the work involved must have been considerable. If this image was available as a print I might be tempted to buy one .....
I've been trying to push image coloring for publication for the past three years, it's great to see work like this, which can only help to prove the worth of colored images.

Thank you!
If you read further up in this thread, I do offer some pointers. There are also quite a few threads about colorizing in the forums here. Bottom line: it's all about attention to detail. Here's some more to look at if you're interested:
