Excellent photo! A great backdrop to put people later if you like. Nice work!

Great shot Chris. The lines really draw your eye into the image. Excellent tonality from the brightest highlights to the darkest shadows.

Thanks for the generous comments, I posted this on Retouch last year but have re-cropped it.
Phyllis I never have people in my photos it makes them (the image) look untidy !!!

I really enjoy this kind of photograph. You only seem to get this kind of effect from old world architecture.
Great stuff Chris, if I was to rate it, I'd also go for a five.

People make pics look untidy? LOL! I see what you mean though...if you are going for a scenic or architectural or a picture of a THING then the presence of the complicated human form competes too much with your pic. Do you ever photograph just people alone? Or do you stick to non-peopled pics?

The camera can determine what form dominates an image, its simply a matter of composition. The buttresses are ambiguous as regards scale to the viewer but not to the imagemaker. Thus the camera has determined the images form. If you placed a figure in the picture it would immediately give it scale but in this case I think it works better without.

I especially like the repetition of the arches giving the feeling of stability. Excellent shot!
