Squint Blur Custom Filter

A small Photoshop tip that could save you money, by Jigal van Hemert

Alienskin has a Squint filter in their Eye Candy 4000 filter collection. This effect can be simulated easily with a photoshop custom filter. You don't have all the control settings of the original, but this simulation is sufficient in most cases to produce realistic squint blurring.

In Photoshop select Filter > Other > Custom...

Set the following values in the dialog:

0
1
2

Scale: 8 Offset: 0

Adjust the scale to set the intensity of the filter (higher values produce a smoother blur). To compensate the brightness set the central value (in this example '4') to Scale minus 4.

This filter is also 'useful' to show someone what a near sighted person sees without his glasses B-)

(This is also a great general introduction to custom filters - Doug)
