  • Interesting article in PDN....

....I won't post it, that's illegal, so, wha, hey, subscribe already, it's the only monthly journal that seriously covers real life commercial retouching in a detailed way. This month they write how an outfit by the name of Magia Media works with Casablanca Bridal very closely to produce quality retouching in a low cost and high volume process. Very interesting, and what I always say, photography and retouching have to be managed as one department - leave your territorial egos at home, please. Not a very creative process, but, hey, if you want to do Grade B+ quality work cheap and fast, these guys have it figured out.

Yeah, too deep without a login, I suppose. Start here:

and scroll down to the article "Touch of Class: Dress You Up" in this month's articles section. You will have to pay for it, but nothing good is free.

I like the PDN, also Digital Pro Photo, interesting articles there, the only thing i'm not excited about is the hardware reviews.
        Best regards,

using the right profiles in your workflow can eliminate "the huge shift in both color and in tone in the shadow areas"

Me thinks they have the photoshop US default CMYK colour space which is horrible and allows to much under colour removal

Yes, I read the article and have heard of the Magia digital capture studio in the Hollywood area. You can rent out a variety of digital capture cameras they offer and a Mac work station with a tech to run your own project or have them do the whole thing for you, the way I understand it.

I think the daily fee for their services is $1500+ and up per day. That is a definite way to get an edge on a project, especially the speed factor on making a deadline for a high end assignment.

I'm also sure of this. I have no reason to do two separate CMYK and RGB other than a slight bump for greens every once in a blue moon. There should be no huge jump.
