Thanks Roger. I have read a lot of the discussion on the thread you pointed me too and know I am not alone in coping with organization. I also quilt and I have now put all my fabric stash on one side of the room and photo stuff on the other. It was really bad when they were intermixed.. Perhaps just getting the computer into the same room with all the photo stuff would help. Whew.

Photo Mauler, enjoyed looking at your neat photos. But what is Thumb's???? Do you have a link??

Hi, you are not alone. I settled on JASC Photo Paint Photo Album because of a couple of it's features - very quick to put photos in categories and the ability to compare two photos side by side at whatever zoom level you desire.

Here is a thread where this was discussed quite a bit, it has quite a few links to different software to help with organization

Please share anything that works, we are all refining this as we go ...

    Organization

Wondering how others keep there photos organized ????
    Off the computer

When I am working on the computer I use the method K Eismand recommended in her PS REst and Retouch book ie. a folder for each project and within that a folder for scan, WIP, and Final.
Then I have separate folders for each size of print I might make in JPEG format. This all seems to be OK .

THere are all the bits and pieces Off the computer. Now I am accumulating a huge bunch of CD's with one or two files archived on them.
What do you do with all the originals and trials .?

I sometimes feel like I am lost in a forest of old photos, new photos, CD's ,boxes and albums (wish I had been better about getting photos into albums) I have to shuffle thru boxes to locate the one photo I want. SIGH

    Including handwritten notes with photos
    by Coupfeather
To be truly meaningful to future family members, I want to include the handwritten notes from the backs of several family photos (most are from 40 to 75 years old).

Additionally, other photos without such notes would benefit by inclusion of captions which provide information (like...

I answered a question by DannyRaphael the other day regarding the file properties or IPTC / EXIF data stored with JPEG files. The answer is in this thread if any one is interested in that subject. http://www.retouchpro.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8401 He was interested in more information about the...

    Image Security - watermarking maybe
    by John_D
I am helping a friend scan old family photos ( hundreds of photos) with the intention of creating a large family album on dvd. Her family are located all over the globe so we felt the easiest way to let the family members see our progress was to place some of the old photos on a private webpage for...

    Storage for 3x3 Photos
    by chickenbird
I hope this is the correct forum for a storage question.

I need to find a place either in the real world or online where one can purchase acid-free photo albums that have the right size and shape pockets for those old 3x3 pictures.

I have a ton of them that I found in the...

The following is an article from the House Select Committee
On Assassinations. This tread is not to see if the lone gunman killed or didn't kill Kennedy. But to see how photo/retouch experts evaluated the pictures for their "Photograph Authentication". You have to read "between...
