    Hey All,
I been wandering around on the web for exactly a site like this. I'm a hobbyist with Photoshop.
My name is Brian Fosnocht. I'm a 31 year old physician in Pennsylvania, but a retoucher wanna be. I first got introduced to Photoshop at version 3.0. That's when I bought my first computer. Reading as much as I could before I bought my first scanner (a nikon AX-110 with a max of 300 dpi resolution) everything I read said...make sure the bundled software has adobe photoshop and omnipage pro. Well, I didn't know exactly what that meant....boy was I in for a treat. I eat up computer gadgets and anything about them. I have done some retouching for family and friends over the years, and they love it (except my wife who says I spend way too much time on the computer). I am a member of the NAPP for the past 2 years. The best conference I've ever been to was the PhotoshopWorld in Florida....what a blast.
Katrin's book opened whole new avenues for me and retouching...Clearly the best Photoshop book I've ever read...Also Martin Evenings is awesome too, and Barry Haynes' book
This is a great site!!!!! A Photoshop user's dream....Thanks for keeping it up.
    See ya'll!!!

Welcome aboard! You're right...this is indeed a great site. I've learned even more on this site than I did from Katrin's book, and I'm sure I don't have to tell you, that's a *lot*!

For sure, check out the Challenges, and Doug has just put up a new Gallery section that is awesome. Lots of helpful people here, too...so enjoy. But, hey, don't give up the day job!

      Welcome!
This is also my very favorite website. Everyone is very proffesional and mature...kind and very helpful. I wouldn't even have know about Katrin Eismann's book if not for the review on this site. (Still love that book!) There is so much information within this site! Just the forum alone will keep you busy for a long time.....the explaination restorers give for the challenge picture have been a great sorce of information for me. Anytime I have had a question (big or small) I have recieved a responce and the asked for help, can you tell I like it here?!

Actually, a Minnesota Vikings Fan most of my life....now that they had a lousy season, I am obligated to root for da Bears or the Pack....for AFC, I would actually root for the Raiders...sorry if any of you are Eagles or Pittsburgh fans....

                Hey Tim (aka Hankster65),

I actually lived in Ohio for 3 years. I did my training at the University of Cincinnati Hospital...my wife (a Pediatrician) did her training at the Dayton Children's Hospital and at Wright Pat AFB...we miss Ohio alot....but PA is home. See around the site.

Welcome Brian! I'm glad you found your way to this site. It's been a great source of information and inspiration for me! Definitely try some of the challenges - not only do I learn a lot doing them myself, but the descriptions from others have been very helpful in applying to other projects I have.

                      Hey Jeanie,

Colorado Foothills huh? My wife and I just moved from Cheyenne, WY....not to far from you...We are now on the east coast. Are you around Boulder, Denver, further south? There is a GREAT Photoshop studio guy down in Boulder that is a wonderful teacher for the professional. I was in some sessions of his at the PhotoshopWorld conference in Orlando two years ago....his name is Ben Wilmore http://www.digitalmastery.com. I miss the Rockies, but no the wind of Wyoming....

                      Bye

Brian, I'm in Fort Collins - almost (former) neighbors! And I've most certainly heard of Ben Willmore! I've been drooling over some of his workshops - just don't have the money right now.

Amazon lists a new Photoshop book entitled "Photoshop Face to Face: Facial Image Retouching, Manipulation and Makeovers with Photoshop 7 or Earlier" by Gavin Cromhout. It was was published in June of this year. The excerpts and table of contents are interesting but I have spent to much money...

Ordered PS7 15 min ago, it's on the way.

Meanwhile, please any reccommendations for a good thorough book would be most appreciated.

My main interest is in photo retouching, restoration and painting.

I'm not intersested in a very beginning book like the dummy...

I just purchased the Hidden power of PSE4 from Amazon.com. I have read the first 4 chapters and I am ready to go back and attempt to calibrate my screen and try to separate my RGB color commponents.

Should I install the disk now or is it better to install bit by bit as the book progresses?...

I'm going to take the liberty of starting this thread just cause I love books so much. Doug, you recommended a book called something like Channel Drops or Chops--I can't remember now :p ! Anyway, is it basically a theory book (as opposed to a book of tutorials)--and does it deal with one particular...
