  • Need a little computer help please

I know there is probably an easy solution to this, but I can't figure it out. I have a few folders with quite a few images. I would like to print the filenames only. Is there a way to do that? I'm running Windows XP.

    Hi Ed

Although We have not ‘met’ I have come across many of your posts while I have been reading older threads here.

So I’m not sure if it is appropriate but welcome back.

The simple answer to your question is that Windows XP does not offer any easier way to do this than Win98 or WinME.

There IS a way to do this but you have to use DOS.

    Try this

Click Start > Run and type CMD
Use CD to navigate to the directory you want the names from
    Then type
    dir /b >name.txt

This will give you a txt file named ‘name’ in the current directory
You could then import the file to excel to edit or print.

If you want to do this a lot there are shareware/Freeware programs to help

Do a Google search for Copy2Clip

There is a program called 'snagit' that can do this, and many other clever screen capture things. It's not freeware, but it does come with a 30 day trial.

Makes you wonder......Microsoft know that this would be a very useful feature, but has never implemented it.

Right after I read Ken's post, I downloaded Copy2Clip because this is not the first time I wanted to print filenames. It worked like a charm! Thanks again, Ken, and thanks for the other replies.

one note here, the link is to downloads.com. the version there is 1.04. if you go to the home page for that software, http://utenti.lycos.it/DafiZone/ , you can get version 1.06. i dont know the differences or if 1.06 is 'safe', but there it is if you want to try it.

I've really had it with windows (and it's not because
I'm inexperienced - I've used 3.1, 95, 98, and XP) I've had sooo many problems and it hasn't really helped deleting everything and reloading Windows, so I give up. I'm very soon switching to Linux (Mandrake 8.2).
