  • FBI is warning of new attacks...

Stay safe everyone! I am begining to wonder why I live so close to a nuclear power plant

  • #2
I must have missed this one. Anything specific? I think the terrorists are doing this purposely in hopes we will get complacent about all the warnings and then they will pounce. Hope I'm wrong.

Actually, this warning was very specific and even mentioned suspects by name. They said some of the attacks could come as early as tomorrow. ...I hope it proves to be fake..

David - I was just reading about these new warnings. It's hard to tell how much of this is false info, politics or real threat. Oh well...I have ceased to worry. Besides, if they hit the local nuclear reactor I will finally have an entry for that "Glow" Gallery challenge! (...sorry about the cynical humor)

One is prudent to pay attention to the information released, but , it is well to consider that Terrorist activity is as much Psychological as physical. The anticipation of what MIGHT happen can cause more damage in terms of lost productivity, disorginization and stress related problems than an actual physical occurance. The goal of Terrorism is to demoralize, disrupt and create fear in as many people as possible, and threats accomplish this because they are vague, non specific and even if seeming specific, are still generalized enough to cause anyone, regardless of location, to become disquieted who hears of them. If a specific type of orginization is mentioned, as was the case a while back with Banks, prudence dictates to shut them down...and look at the disruption caused..not only when they were closed, but in the days following the re-openings. It is best to be aware of what is going on around you, report anything out of the ordinary and, like David said, stop worrying. Life is to be enjoyed, not feared. Being alert is the best policy... by being prudent and wary you can avoid snakebite, frostbite and the charms of Saloon girls. Tom

Sooo true. getting everybody scared is exactly what the terrorists are trying to accomplish, so you can't let being scared and paranoid take over your life (unless you're the CIA or FBI).

What they are doing is waiting patiently until we get used to all the false warnings and get complacent. Then they attack us again just as we let our guard down.

I have to admit to being a bit paranoid. I seem to be the type of person who is constantly running a worse case scenario in my head (My older brother made me watch way too much Twilight Zone as a kid!).

When I was a child I was always paranoid about nuclear bombs going off...when I was in college and taking astronomy classes, I convinced myself that a giant asteroid was about to hit earth...and now, after September 11th (and even before), my doomsday scenario of choice involves biological and nuclear terrorism. I guess that means they are getting to me. Of course, as an artist, all that anxiety is sort of fuel for the fire.

Its awfully easy to let the News reports get to you...it seems as though, if you spend much time listening to them, that the end of everything is just about upon us...but always after the next commercial break and even though it will all be over by Friday, ( or so the Newsfolks claim), there will be a Sunday Primetime special exposing the truth of the aforementioned absolute extinction of everything, everywhere.....Pardon the cynical attitude, but ALL the news reports are more concerned with keeping ratings up than reporting " Just the facts"....If you listen, REALLY listen, you will discover that 99% of the "Gloom and Doom" is couched in clever language to attempt to obfuscate the fact that they are simply speculating. Hyping possible Terrorist attacks is irresponsible and will lead to what DJ pointed out. When you hear words/phrases like " might" , " no hard evidence", "possible", or " information suggests"...take it with a grain of salt. Keep you eyes open and be alert, but dont let the speculative hype become the absolute truth to you. Avoid getting hypnotised by fear mongers who's only real agenda is ratings and Ad sales. It almost seems at times that we are our own worst enemies...like I said, Life is to enjoy and relish...worry and fear are always about something which MIGHT occur, NOT what has or is.....fear robs you of your today, tomorrow and all which is good. Be alert, but realize that you have probably as much chance of winning millions in the lottery as being taken out by a Terrorist.....in short, dont worry about getting hit by a train, just step off the tracks. Tom

I fully agree with Tom. There are nuclear plants close enough to me to us too. But I don't think about them all the time. In fact, I almost never think about them. If a major strike does happen, there's nothing I can do about it anyhow, so why let it disrupt my life before it happens? There's always the *possibility* that some things could be "leaked" for political reasons. I don't thing there is one politician who wouldn't take advantage of a situation, whatever political party they are connected to.

I also agree with Tom. I also believe that there WILL be additional terrorist attacks. When? Where? How? Who knows? Even the terrorists may not know those answers, and I'm not going to make them Happy by wasting my precious life thinking about them. But as Tom & David also said -- be alert, report anything seriously out of the ordinary, 'get off the tracks'.

Now what has me wondering is those "charms of Saloon girls". Tom, I don't remember you mentioning them before -- just geese, goats, etc.

Greg, an asteroid IS coming -- how close does it have to get to be fuel for your "artist's fire"?
