  • Just for Fun

I was bored saturday night, broke out my studio equipment and set up a few shots and came up with this.

Too fun and too funny. Great sense of humor.

Putting on a different face, neat concept and execution, would also be really handy. :-))

An attachment file failed to open after I was clicking photo. It had black blank.

That would have been a good idea.

the origional inspiration for this was going to be the 7 deadly sins.

i spend about an hour figuring out the lighting, used 2 Sb-600's wirelessly, one in a shoot through umbrella the other one bouncing off the ceiling. Took a while to get it to light up without casting reflections off the granit countertop onto the cabinets, and to eliminate any harsh shadows.

i had 2 white blank halloween masks used for stand-ins for the faces.

I took about a dozen shots of nothing but the box on the countertop moved each time, sometimes open with a mask half sticking out, sometimes closed, or times just open.

Total of 7 boxes, there would have been 5 faces in all. Each face with an expression to represent one of the 7 deadly sins, and i was going to chop some labels so each box had either gluttony, envy, pride, wrath, so on and so forth.

this is the first time i attempted a multi-shot as elaborate as that and in the end i totally screwed it up.

i would shoot the box with a mask on it, then shoot again with my head in the frame in roughly the right position with the itnent of extracting it and then punching it down on the mask. i was shooting with too wide of an aperature and narrowed down the DOF, enough that the faces would not be the same level of focus as the box it was sitting on after i made the swap.

It was a good learning experience, i know things to pay more attention to. And next time im definatly going to have somebody model for me rather than use myself, that really made it tricky.

also, next time im gonna use half my brain and think, well, can i really figure out good facial expressions to express Envy, Pride, Sloth, and gluttony? Wrath and lust are easy enough

and then i forgot what the last sin was

                  lol

anyways, it was a fun exercize in lighting techniques and photoshop techniques, also a good exercise in preperation and execution.
