  • Your other (or only) serious hobbies

I'm interested in hobbies you pursue as seriously (or more) as your imaging work. Or, if you are a professional imager, the non-imaging hobbies you pursue seriously.

I'm a dabbler. I guess my hobby is to collect hobbies. I'll try one for a few years, til I feel I have the "gist" of it, then move to another.

Over the years I've done the following at a level I'd consider "serious":

    Freshwater tropical fish
    Vegetable gardening
    Flower gardening
    Cooking
    Music composition
    Backpacking
    Model rocketry
    Stamp collecting
    Birdwatching/feeding

So far the only one that I've stuck with is flower gardening. Last year I started adding roses to my repertoire.

Less serious attempts (ie: I gave up quickly) include:

    Piano
    Guitar
    Programming
    Fiction writing
    Learn by teaching
    Take responsibility for learning

Was a working photographer and eventually closed my studio. But that does not mean I stopped taking pictures, I do not think that old photographers every stop, they just fade away kind of like an old print.....

My hobby for the last 45 years or so is amateur (Ham) radio.

Since I'm your host, I guess I'm obligated to go first:

My name is Doug Nelson. I'm 41 and live in St. Louis, MO

I've been involved with photography since 1968 (yes, that's right), with computers...

I am trying to grow my new business while continuing to be primary care giver for 3 little boys, Caleb 7, Benjamin 4, Luke 1. I have often said that this child rearing is the hardest thing I have ever done. There is a reason people have small children when they are in their twenties. At 42, chasing...

This is just a thread for you to share what hobbies you have, outside of anything retouching or photo-related. For this discussion, "hobby" will include something you do or make, not watch or read

I've already inflicted some of my "musical" hobby on you here. Lesser...

My last year of college, I was tired of taking classes that didn't interest me, so I asked my teacher if I could do an independent study which incorporated web design with photo retouching since there were no classes dealing with either (turns out...

I think I have finally had a bad dentist experience. My new dentist doesn't believe in metal/mercury fillings and wanted to replace mine. Ok, I'm game, they're prettier and I have insurance. I have never been SO ABUSED in my life. Somehow they managed to have 4 hands in my mouth at the same time...
