  • Latest info on my virus

I know I'm posting on the Salon, but Chris is looking for it here. Here's the deal. If you think your computer might be infected, you can go here for a virus check from Symantec. You will have a 1.5 MB download, and your system will be scanned for infected files. It will not check compressed files though. After a thorough scan with AVG and Symantec, no infected files were found be either. My son-in-law suggested that since AVG certifies outgoing mail, it might show up as an attachment. So I disabled that function, and sent myself another e-mail. This one did not show up as having an attachment. Thank God! My nerves can't take much more of this!!

Glad to hear it Ed. That symantec site is a good one. I used it when I couldn't access my Norton.

Glad your sorted Ed, I thought there might be some new virus around as a few days ago Norton downloaded a huge chunk of new updates to my machine.

I've had a virus on my computer as well but I think mine came from a music file my son downloaded. Luckily it didn't get far and has been deleted by my anti virus program.

A virus slipped through tonight in my e-mail. The sender is [email protected], and the subject is Re: Sample. Since I know nothing about this stuff, I'll give you some info, in hopes you can give me some advice. I'm running AVG virus protection v. 6.0.445/virus database: 250-release date 1/21/03. AVG tells...

          Important update on virus
          by Ed_L
I sent a few messages to individuals to let them know I had received a virus. I just found out that the e-mail I sent had an attachment with it. I did not put an attachment in the e-mail. I hope I didn't infect anyone else's system. Now what do I do???

          Computer question
          by Ed_L
I've been having a problem with my computer. I'm running Windows XP Home edition, and when you boot up the computer, you get the message "To begin, click on your username". The problem is that for some reason, no username is available to click on, thereby making the computer useless with the...

Still wondering about possible virus (What's .HQX?)
          by Ed_L
I have not been able to find a virus on my computer or my wife's, even though I've done several scans, both online and local. But I recently received an e-mail that seemed to come from my wife, but it didn't. It had an attachment, which I didn't open.

During an online scan, using Panda...

          Do I have a virus?
          by Ed_L
I received an e-mail from a longtime online acquaintance telling me that his virus protection caught a virus that I sent. I haven't sent this individual an e-mail for quite some time, but he is in my address book. I have NOT visited any questionable websites, and I only visit websites having to do with...
