  • Guess who I had breakfast with

There was a time when I thought Chris would cross the pond, and I might get to meet him. So far that hasn't happened. But DJ and I have been trading e-mails for some time, and I knew she was going to spend some time in Michigan's UP. Knowing that she might be coming my way, I suggested that if she did, we might meet for a cup of coffee. This morning I had breakfast with DJ and her husband, Dave. This was the first time I've actually met someone in person that I've met on the net (RP to be exact). It was really good to meet with two very nice people. Since I never talked to Dave, I didn't really know what to expect. I found him to be very warm and friendly, just like DJ. It was a pleasure to meet with them, if only for a half hour or so. Wouldn't it be nice if we could have an RP get-together?

Ed -- that's great! The internet is a wonderful tool for communication, but actually talking to people face-to-face is the best! Good for you both for making this happen.

I met a nice lady online who decided to visit my area a couple of times to meet, eat, and go photographing together. We had met in a photographic forum and knew we had some similar interests, and she loves to travel with and without her husband. A lot of us in RP would have even more in common -- the photography, image editing, and all the good times posting back and forth.

I love the idea too! It would be great to put faces to all the wonderful people that I've met!

Anyone else like the idea? Doug what do you think?

We've had people meet here and get married, so why not have people meet and drink tea or go out photographing? All it takes is someone motivated enough to make the arrangments. I'm actually surprised it took this long. Notice we've had 'get-togethers' listed in the Events description from day one

Well I have posted a vote thread in the Events section asking this very question --- Please take a moment and reply on how you would feel towards a RP get together.

            Hi Guys,
We're finally here in the Great UP of Michigan. I'm on my nephews computer so I thought I drop in. Had a great time with Ed. It was so strange to hear his voice finally. I already pretty much knew what he looked like from some challenge pictures but hearing him was different. We had a great time. I wish I could do that more often. It's funny how you can know someone so well after 2 years of talking back and forth yet never even know them if you bumped into them in a public place. Real cool experience. Little daunting taking away the annonimity factor though. I think we tend to hide behind our computers all safe and sound. All in all, Ed's the genuine article. No crazed internet stalker type there. Talk to you all when I can. Take care. Hope to catch you again in the Fall Ed.
            DJ

Is he as good looking in person as his avatar makes him out to be?

Thanks Chris. I knew I had a friend somewhere around here.

How did you meet your valentine? Ours was not a storybook romance, but the story is ours. She was 16, and I was 18. She was standing in front of her house, waiting for a date to arrive. This was in 1956. He never showed up because she had the day wrong. I was going past her house when I saw her standing...

Several times Tom has mentioned things concerning ethical considerations and business practices. It was one of his recent posts that led me to express my feelings about this group, and it shows what kind of person he is.

Tim has been *very* successful in business, and he's been willing...

Last night, my wife, my mother-in-law, and I went to a festival in a small town where we grew up as teenagers. They had a cool parade, and things were kind of backwards, or unexpected. For instance, they had hula dancers (guys!) who wore hula skirts and the 1/2 shell cocoanut halter thingies. It was...

Today, I celebrate 45 years of marriage to a great gal. We've been together since she was 16, and we married just after her 18th birthday. Our first born came when she was 20, and we wound up with 5 boys and 4 girls. I was a very lucky guy when I landed this one. When we got married, one of her aunts...

The words we all fear. When a customer, friend or family member utters them after viewing the results of hours of work, how do you handle it? Discouragment is a part of life but to be successful in this work either as a hobby or as an income producing affair certain "coping skills" are necessary...
