Really old pictures.

Has anyone worked on Calotype pictures, I am trying without any success to read a sign that appears on such a picture. Help and advice needed.

I have worked on blueprint plans which are basically the same process. I assume you have scanned the image? Assuming you have a good scan and access to a photo editing program then try playing with the levels or curves; or even brightness/contrast to see if you can get more information from that - assuming there is a difference between the lettering and its background as you really want to increase the difference between the two so you can better make out the lettering
