  • Apple announces OS X for Intel platforms

CUPERTINO, California—April 1, 2004—Apple® today announced that it will start shipping OS X for the Intel P4 platform beginning 3rd quarter, 2004. "Apple is now not only a hardware and operating system supplier, but also publishes some of the leading content-creation software available today. This move underscores our new position as a leading software publisher," said Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple.

The OS X operating system, previously limited to running on machines made by Apple, will allow many previously Mac-only applications to run on any Intel P4 system, available from many different suppliers. Intel-based PCs currently hold an 80% share of the desktop computer market.

Apple ignited the personal computer revolution in the 1970s with the Apple II and reinvented the personal computer in the 1980s with the Macintosh. Apple is committed to bringing the best personal computing experience to students, educators, creative professionals and consumers around the world through its innovative hardware, software and Internet offerings.

      Windows vs Apple
      by skydog
I need to upgrade my computer. I currently use Windows XP. Over the years I've been told that Apple is the way to go for those who are into photography, video, graphic design, etc. Is this still true? Is there still a strong differential between an Apple and the Windows format?

Advice on computers - what do I need
      by Elya
      Hi All,
I maybe have a naive question but whoever I asked couldn't answer it, even sales reps at Apple. All I know about Mac is that it's RAM, speed, a chip made by Adobe and a much better operations system that won't crash. Which one would be the best for restoration? Do I really need a Mac?...
