What a surprise...recipes at RetouchPro....!
For 4 (...generally.....!)
CRUMBLE:-
90g (3oz) unsalted butter cut into cubes.
1/3 cup of caster sugar (tut...tut!)
1 cup of Plain Flour (eg. not self-raising otherwise)
Cold Water....VERY IMPORTANT
FILLING:-
3/4 large baking apples (a tin of cooking apples will suffice) OR a mixture of apples/cooked rhubarb!
Peel and core your apples, cut into 1" chunks.
3 oz butter (AGAIN....!)
125g (4oz) dried fruits (your choice)
150 ml (5 fl oz) dry cider (optional)
Filling:- Peel and core apples, cut into 1" cubes. Heat large pan, gently melt butter, add ALL the filling ingredients and cook, stirring gently, allowing the apples to soften.
Crumble:- Work the butter, flour and sugar between your fingers until it looks like breadcrumbs (or use your food processor).
Heat a moderate oven - 180C/375F/Gas5 ??
Grease a square (?) container with a little butter/or oil around the sides and bottom. Put in your filling and use a spoon to even out. Scatter your crumb mixture over the top.
JUST before placing in the oven...sprinkle 2/3 tablespoons of COLD water over the top of the crumble. Bake until it just turns a golden brown.
Serve with ice-cream, custard or fresh cream.
