  • The Man Who Wasn't There

A Coen Brother's film...so if you like their other work you will probably like this! I thought it was an excellent movie and touches on some interesting themes. On the surface it seems like the story of a simple man who gets caught up in an ever increasing complex web of events set off by one rash action (I'm being deliberately vague!)... but the movie eventually suggests some much deeper ideas and themes, many of which are the bedrocks of quantum physics. The only thing I did not like is that these themes are at times stated in very obvious ways, as if the film makers wanted to be absolutely certain you "get it". Nonetheless, it's nice to see a movie that really delves into some of the strange ideas of modern science and modern living.

I'm a big fan of the Coen brothers' work. In fact, I should add them to my list in the "how you know it's going to be a good movie" thread.

      Movie Stinker

I have three grandchildren, so I end up seeing a lot of children's movies. We eagerly awaited the release of Lilo & Stitch thinking it was a cuddly lost dog kind of movie.

The only cuddly parts are what is shown in all the tv ads that we've been inundated with.

      Bad Movie Tip-offs
      by Doug Nelson
I'll admit it, I'm a movie snob. I can tell a bad movie without even watching it. A few of my favorite tip-offs that a movie is going to be bad are:

      1. Stars a model, a wrestler, or anyone playing themself
      2. Plot is "a young <blank> must stop a <blank> from destroying...

      Sleeper Movies
      by Ed_L
Do you have a sleeper movie that has become a favorite of yours? If so pass it on. Maybe others will enjoy it too. No "Gone With The Wind", "Citizen Kane", etc. Here's mine:

      "The Earthling"
No, it's not a science fiction movie as the title might suggest....
