    Re: Aug-Sep 2014 Contest Discussion

Ok... sorry for all of the added content. Had to move from Actual Contest forum. Here is where I think I am going to land. Any suggestions, criticisms, or input. Also - does anyone know if there is anyway to show the large hires work. Seems a shame to save it so small after all that work. But if I understand the rules correctly, a link is not acceptable.

The contest entry will have to be an attached image, but you can always post a link to your HiRes work in the discussion forum.

Contest Rules: Links will not be accepted. Please restrict your comments, questions or discussion to the Contest Discussion thread. Inappropriately placed posts will be deleted.

Testing the look of my final... OK. I guess that this is as good as it's going to get at the 100KB file size. You can see the higher res at this link...

Beautiful work, LonK. The work on the sky, the foreground sharpness, the softening of the trees, color- love it.

Bellafonte! I know where that is. Travel through it very often going from one end our great state to the other!

I tried to go for natural colors and tones - at least as I would imagine them and know some to be. Pine - freshly cut and peeled logs are a yellowish white. Wood only takes on its wood coloring after it has been milled, dried and weathered - and maybe even some staining.

Great challenge. After looking closely at the entrants I think I'll grab another set of three photos from the LOC and use a few of the different approaches others seemed to use. Thanks for putting the challenge together.

I was thrilled with all the entries this month! So many new names. I was initially afraid that this challenge might scare contestants away , but you guys proved me wrong. I was also happy to see some old friends that we haven’t seen in awhile.

Kudos to all the entrees and a special thanks for those that shared tips. My favorite contests are the ones where I see a lot of dialogue between the entrees!

Congrats Tsykhra! I really liked a lot of entries. Some good interpretations. Personally... I don't only look at the retouch and restoration, but a good deal of my focus is often on color. With my work as an-house retoucher and color specialist, it is my business to know what RGB values or CMYK make a white - neutral white, a standard flesh tone (somewhere in the neighborhood of R-237, G-170 & B-139) - depending upon lighting, ethnicity, dirt, etc.. Color casts jump right out at me. Thanks for all the tips and feedback from all! Maybe see you again in another contest. Great work all.
