If you follow the thread, you will find that to be true Joe. It only took me nearly a decade to figure out how to create these to my liking. It heavily depends on the Traveling Salesman program from Georgia Tech. Click on thread below for the pertinent details (read through the whole thread; yes, it's long).

Had another epitomy and it helps with density. Breaking the image into 5 primary shades and addressing each shade individually (more squeeze on lighter colors in this case; density of dots also closer) gives better results imo.

is it ever possible to create a pattern exactly like that, in CS5 photoshop from scratch, which repeats itself endlessly and you cannot see the borders and that it is a pattern?

i tried the pattern maker filter, but it created only a mechanic duplicate of the same pattern, rowed and chained and very tiny.
in the end it should look like the original but...-

Did that make any sense at all? Like, I have an image tile. I want to fill up my whole background with that tile... Anybody...
