  • What did I do wrong?

I feel like I overdid the dodging and burning and the feedback I've been getting hasn't been too strong. What did I do that wasn't effective and what can I do that will be?

Not over done, more incorrect. You need to respect the anatomy when enhancing shape.

It's not so much that it's overdone. I kind of like the deep grey of the background, but none of the shapes make any sense. That upper chest also seems a bit bright, but overall they're anatomical mistakes. They're also very very bad ones, which is why you perceive it as overdone. The upside to this is that if you can't recognize any of this, you could see a really big improvement with slightly more knowledge.

A book would be ideal especially if you can find a good anatomy for artists book in the library. You can try something like 3d.sk, which is used for video game references. You can also google for anatomical illustrations. I would probably start with the face and neck.

Well, I learned alot about what works and what doesn't on this one. A lot of experimentation went into solving its problems. I am intentionally not going to tell you everything that I did. The first tumb is my original scan. The second is a cross-polarized copy ($75!!!) - big disappointment. The...

I use PS7. I am relatively familiar with it. I usually stick to doing just the basic repairs on old photos. From time to time I run into damage that is beyond my level (like the current photo). With a couple tips from saby, I attempted to repair this photo, but, it looks like I did something wrong....

Hey everyone! long time lurker on these forums, I've been studying ever since discovering Godmother's Dodge and Burn years ago. Since then I've played with other methods like frequency separation and have had interesting results in the past. This time around I feel like I'm bouncing around between multiple...

Repaired and recolored - how did I do?
        by khakigirl
I'm just looking for some feedback on an image I repaired for one of my Graphic Design classes. How did I do? Is the quality up to par with what a pro would do?

I have also added links to larger versions of these images:
