  • removing photos from a Harding's Album - 1871

    Hello,
I recently acquired a Harding's Flexible Chain Back Album and it was put together in 1871. I am trying to remove the photos, but when I do, I seem to be ripping the paper. The photos are not glued down, but seem to be stuck. Can anyone help me with this problem.

    Thanks.

I am wondering why you need to remove the photos? I am assuming that they are as antique as the album they are housed in- are they? Can you provide more info about the album/photos and what you are wanting to do with them.

      Hello,
Thanks for responding to my e-mail. You are right about that it is probably best not to remove the photos. Unfortunately, the album belongs to my aunt and she would like it back. Myself and my siblings would all like copies of the photos.

        hi,
Is there a issue of just leaving the pictures on the album page and scan the whole page....? if that not feasable..... another idea is with a good high resolution camera/lens take a picture of the pictures... if you don't have a camera/lens that will do a good job you can take it to a photography studio or if there a good local photography club some one there can probably help you do this...

has anybody got suggestions for removing stuck photos from those horrible "Magnetic" albums without damaging the photos? by MEP
Advice please. I have my mother's photo album from 1910 to 1920. Photos have been pasted (adhesive unknown) onto the soft black album paper. There are also quite a few postcards which have been pasted address/writing/stamp side down. Unfortunately nothing was written next to the photos to identify...

          saving crumbling albums
          by bravura
Old albums I've inherited from my grandfather are falling apart. The photos are glued to the crumbling black pages. Is there a way to safely remove them so I can put then in a new album? There may be identifying writing on the backs of some of the pictures, and I want to preserve that as well.

          removing old photos
          by azcol
I have a number of original photos from the late 1800's through the 1930's that were mounted on non-archival cardboard. It was probably done in the 1960's and it looks to me like they were dry mounted. The photos themselves are in fairly good condition. How can I get them off? Can I heat them with...
