How to remove underwater backscatter

I'd like to know the best way to remove the backscatter on the left of this photo I took.

The photo that comes up when you click on the link. The shipwreck with the diver at the top, taken in Lake Ontario at 130ft deep.

OOPS!, I forgot my manners.... Welcome back to the Forum Jarviz it's been quite awhile..

What comes up when I click the link is the first photo

After searching I found the next under 2012>local

I then added a multiply layer and a gradient mask then another multiply layer with a radial gradient mask

for the last pic I kept the two multiply layers but on a copy of the background layer I tried Image>Adjustments>Equalize to see if there would be a difference..

so after seeing the first image and then looking at it and trying out the patch tool on it, i was able to get rid of that in like under 1 min. You just need to select it from the left and move do 'source' on it to the right top side of the image, then do the same for hte mid section, remove some anomalies and then do some minor but careful selection around the edges of that rope. hope that helps.
