Retouching Goose Bumps?!

Did a shoot last week. The model mentioned she was cold, but nobody else seemed bothered so I didn't pay much attention (and there was nothing I could do about the temperature anyway).

When I got home and started working on the images, I noticed that in several she's covered with goose bumps. I've tried my best to take care of them, but short of going in with some sort of frequency separation technique and individually retouching out each one, I can't seem to improve her skin. Any help you guys could offer on this would be greatly appreciated.

This does happen, and it's possible to get a decent result from it. It's just really annoying. You will probably have to try something along the lines of clone most of them. Darken mode can make it easier, but I don't suggest trying one area all at once. I do suggest making your strokes very very small, barely covering the spot. Dodge and burn / shading techniques can even it out afterward. Also don't initially plan on removing every one of them. Start with the most obnoxious ones and try to thin out the density somewhat. The rest of the skin really isn't bad at all. It's just so easy to overdo this kind of thing, which is why I emphasize care in the work.

Thanks, guys. I was hoping there was a magical trick for this, but I guess freq. sep. is the way to go to generally smooth things out. After that a lot of healing brush and dodge/burn work. Fun times...

This method takes a bit of time but is simple and effective. Make a copy layer of the original and offset it by a few pixels over the original. Temporarily, lower the opacity of the copy to judge the distance of the offset which should be just a few pixels. In which direction requires a judgement call but I generally go 45 degrees up. Add a layer mask to hide the offset layer and then paint each bump you see which will expose a 'clean' area of skin. A stipple stroke or one click of the mouse with a brush size a teeny bit bigger than the bump will do the job. Just hen peck your way around the file until it's done. About half an hour should do it. One or two spots may need need individual cloning out after. I didn't bother but you can make a few layers and offset them in different directions to randomise the overall effect.

Dust and scratches filtered layer on darken/lighten blend and a nice heavy grain layer on top should do it.

So yeah just do a dust and scratches layer at the minimum amount until the pimple texture disappears, set the layer to darken mode, mask and brush into the affected areas, if you also have a grain layer at the top of your psd then it works pretty well.
