  • Help with an edit

    Hi

I have started a photo edit but I seem to have bitten off more then a can chew and now can't get it to the final image I wanted to, is anyone willing to have a look at it for me and see what they can do?

I have the PSD file saved if that helps as well.

    Thanks Darren

      Hi Sam

I just want the image to look better if that makes sense? I have got it as far as I can but its still not quite as good as I wanted it to be.

I am happy to have a look, have you got a dropbox link to the PSD?

Your communication skills could use some work. Looking at the image doesn't tell me your intentions. Your words don't tell me your intentions. What do you hope to accomplish here?

Your social skills need work, not one person on this thread said what they would do to the image and you are the one asking for help! Now you decide to respond abruptly with a rude manner and tone.

I would suggest you rethink your approach when asking for help! In addition, you have left zero narrative. I can see by the work and your manner that you're not a pro.

Back to your rude response, regarding the image you shot in a shoe box with no regard for lighting. I would mask out the setting almost completely (would keep the dresser) and replace the background then from there would see where I would take it. I'm not drawing any conclusions immediately because you gave zero narrative (yes YOU put absolutely nothing in your initial post), so it seemed an open book giving the retoucher the opportunity to play around with it. I would've done a few scrapbook type variations to get an idea of the tone, feel and narrative I wanted before firmly setting my direction.

But, in this case I wouldn't be happy working with you as manners go a along way for me and this is not worth my efforts. The only reason I thought about it was that it had such a bad start and therefore transforming it into something remarkable would be a challenge but make a killer and rewarding before/after.

Finally, I would've asked for the RAW image and not the PSD. The whole thing would've needed a complete re-work to set a solid base from the off.

@mogily - you seem to be be ranting about the OP. I agree he gave no direction and the base image leaves much to be desired, but I don't see any abrupt and rude posts from him.

                  -shift studio.

edit: maybe edaz78 deleted a post?

Opening with 'Your communication skills could use some work' is pretty brutal, especially considering he is asking for help and I responded with good intentions.

I am a decent retoucher and could've really helped him, but he shot himself in the foot with that opener, especially considering he gave no direction or responded to anyone else on the thread in that manner.

I am a fair person and usually of a humorous and helpful demeanour hence my initial offer to him.

                    All the best!

The guy who you are referring to (klev) is not the thread starter (edaz78).
Klev was directing his post to edaz78 (but he didn't say so)

As mentioned I didn't start the thread. I tried to think of a gentler way to word that toward the OP, but I really think he needs to establish his intentions for the image in order to ask for advice. I didn't find the lighting very interesting, and the gloves don't appear to fit well. It's not enough to say that though, as the piece requires some kind of direction. I believe establishing that requires a certain amount of introspective thought, which will ultimately benefit him on future work.

Don't hold my words against him though.

Edit: ugh, I need to take some of my own advice. To be clear, I was referring to the OP before, not you. I just didn't bother to quote it directly.

                            Hi,

I've done some retouching for a local photographer, and he's asked me how much it would cost to get the PSD file of the final image.
He's not so much interested in the actual retouching, but more in the colours, contrast, etc... in other words the grading & overall "look"...

just bored. Thought I'd share a psd file. The size is reduced from the original.

I am not a professional, I work at a shitty restaurant haha. So no need to tell me if I did things wrong or not.
