  • Painting with PSP8

I've been spending a fair amount of time in a newsgroup for PSP, and been playing with some of the images that have been posted over there.

Here's a photo that was posted (original size), and what I did with it.

    That turned out very nice.

Was the effect achived using PSP8 filters, rendered by hand, a little of each? Curious minds want to know.

Fishboy, the original photo was not my own. I wanted to make sure I gave credit where it was due. He knows what I've done, but I still wanted to safeguard his image.

As to how it was done, I isolated the deer, put it on it's own layer, doubled it's size, and added a background behind it.

The rest is just the smudge tool, and then a texture and mat.

Tyeise....Awesome work and I am sure that Ron will love it. I, like yourself, have been playing around with lots of features in the new PSP 8...Beta version but hope that changes in the next few days...watching the postie like crazy. LOL I just love the new changes and even more in love with the program than I was before. *g* Cheers, Opal

Tyeise, lovely work! Great image, great treatment!

Hmmm...do you think you could convince Ron to send me the larger version for a mini-challenge?

Well - I've been gone for a week, just got back last night. It looks like they are in the process of transitioning over to a new forum online.

The original newsgroup was for testing the beta, but they were supposed to close it the end of May. I do see new posts in there, the most recent being 6/5/03. news.jasc.com

You can find the new online forum at: http://forums.jasc.com/ Doesn't look like there's much to see yet, but I'm going to be checking it out.

I think that this is the one that Tyeise is reffering to mr.gregg

Here you will find lots of good, constructive and friendly advice from both the Jasc experts and the beta testers...most of which have progressed to the full version of this awesome program.

                  Cheers, Opal

If you check the times we posted - we were here at exactly the same time. :-) I may have been a few seconds behind you, so I caught your post.

I didn't have the second site yet, but knew it had to be posted over on the Jasc site and went looking for it.

Outstanding! Everything is right on, from the deer, to the background, to the mat, to the use of type in the lower corner.

I personally prefer the look of an oil painting over watercolor. I played with this one (mainly the FILTER/ARTISTIC/UNDERPAINTING) and liked the way it turned out. How many different mediums can we simulate with Photoshop?

I loved this photo from the first time I saw it.
It's almost a painting already, just need a little nudge.
Thought I'd share it with my friends.

It's from here, though I don't remember which page.

I couldn't find an appropriate thread to place this on, so I am starting a new thread. I am including an original computer painting I recently did. I have done a few, but felt I would like professional opinions on this one. Unfortunately I have had to upload a reduced size version, and with that...

My sister asked me if I could turn her daughter's 8th grade graduation photo into something like an oil painting. I said that I'd try (I know that I'm not as good as so many of you here, but I keep on trying). I did my best with the different filters, layer adjustments, etc.. and then applied a brush...

I've spent weeks on working on a family portrait and painting in Corel Painter. Actually this is the first time I'm seriously working on it after watching lots of vids from Richard Ramsey, Fay Sirkis, Jeremy Sutton etc.
Here's what I have done so far:
                              Resized the image to 20'x30'.
