  • New Photo need help with...

    Hi all,

I shot a few shots of my grandson and his mother is in the background and would like to have her removed if there is a way to do so. I have about 5 of these photos, but will only post one of them. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks very much in advance.

    Ron

PS, I will use the techniques that are given on the others, however I only have PSE 2.

There are many ways to accomplish this, here's one that will work in Elements.

Notice the layer stack, that's the most important part.

Duplicate the background layer, flip it horizontally, and add a blank layer between the two layers, and then group the duped bg layer and the blank layer (Ctrl-G or hold down the Alt key and click between them).

Now painting on the blank layer with any color at all will allow the grouped image to show through. Use the eraser on the same blank layer to hide any part again (this is similar to Photoshop's layer masking, but works a little different).

You might need to use the Move tool on the duplicate layer to fine-tune the positioning.

You can also copy sections to their own layer and use the same masking technique to further refine this technique. The image I show in the screenshot is far from finished. I'd probably copy some of the brick background and use that to hide her left shoulder, etc.

      Help needed understanding these layers.

Can anyone break down these layers into a simple set of instructions? I would love to duplicate this effect but I just dont know enough about PS yet to manage it by myself.
      TIA

PE2: Using a duplicate or a new layer?
      by Rich10
Another newbie question concerning PE2: I am a bit confused as to when you use a duplicate of the background layer or a new layer. For example, if I want to sharpen, blur or tint on a new layer, when and why would I choose to do these operations or other operations on a duplicate (of the background)...

      Getting rid of background
      by Claude
      Hello,
It is a common problem in microphotography that the illumination of the microscope field is not completely uniform.
Question: would it be thinkable to take two photos, #1 of the empty field, #2 with the object and combine them in one psd as layers and substract #1 from #2 to get...
