  • New member requests help

    Hi Folks,

I received an e-mail from a new member (ekk), and she has been having some wierd problems trying to upload a file. She asked me to post it for her (there's two files), and here's her request:

"This is my cousin and he colored this with an ink pen. I have tried
    the
blue channel and some of the in came out. I can't get the color right
    around
his upper lip and it seems like his nose gets flatten. I used the a
    filter
on his nose but it didn't seem to work."

I confess to having had a head start on this as I saw Ekk's original posting which went into the wrong place.

I did not think that channels was the right approach to this and used cloning and patching as well as a colour correction layer over the result to remove the blue tinge I was left with.

Followed all this by using Define on the skin areas.

Do you remember where you saw the original thread? I searched for all posts by ekk, and it showed one post was made, but it didn't show the link to it. By the way, nice work!

Additionally, does anyone know why Eismans tip doesn't work in this instance? Is it the type of ink used?

              Cheers

The original picture that Ekk posted appears to have been removed, it had accidently been posted into one of the older challenge galleries.

Define is a plugin from Nik which has several options one of which is for skin smoothing.

Thanks Christine. For a while, I thought I was losing it.

Check to make sure no one is looking, then put denatured alchohol on a Q-tip. The ink should vanish on contact. Some people are paranoid about old prints or something, that's why I said to check no one was looking. (And extinguish all cigarettes.) Tell them you used the clone tool if they ask.

It may be based on denatured alcohol but Binaca and Amway's Sweet Shot mouth fresheners work like hot damn as well.

                      Cheers

                        denatured alcohol

I am a little scared about the denatured alcohol ,Binaca or Amway's Sweet Shot . I will try it on a old picture. But why didn't the blue channel work? I would like to know more about the Define plugin from Nik. What esle does it do? Did you order it off the inernet? I am thinking about getting it.

ekk. Denatured alcohol. Yes. Binaca and Amway Sweet Shot. These are breath fresheners. You shouldn't be "too" concerned. Years ago I used to work for Amway. Had a big executive meeting in the morning. Had an itch on my chest and pulled my pen out to scratch. Unfortunately, the nib was out. White shirt blue ink. Yikes. Sweet Shot worked great. The problem with the original tread and pic is that there is "very" little info to work with in the blue channel, it's just "too" dark. If someone knows how to recover this pic in PS, I really want to know how. Otherwise, we're trying to find solutions outside of PS. I "do" assure that you will survive a breath freshener.

                            Cheers

I have used denatured alcohol before with no ill effects. But if you use *anything* on a photo, always put it on a corner where there's nothing to lose if something goes wrong. And remember that just because ill effects don't show up right away, doesn't mean that they won't show up next month or next year. If it's something really important, it's always better to consult with a conservator.
