    Okay - who wants to tackle this one?

    In terms of computer storage, optical means read by light (ie: laser), such as CDROMs and DVDs. Magnetic would mean reading magnetic levels of an iron-oxide layer, such as hard drives, floppy disks, zip drives, and backup tapes.
