color profile installation

I created an ICC color profile from an it 8.7 target.
installed it on my Mac main library colorsync profiles folder.

The profile shows up in photoshop under assign profile, but not under convert to profile.

any ideas why?

Should show up in both places. RGB or CMYK and what color space is the document you're trying to use?

the source is AdobeRGB, and the end result will be AdobeRGB.
However it's a flatbed scan from an uncallibrated scanner, which also scanned the IT8.7 target, as AdobeRGB tiffs

so i first want to convert to the scanner profile, and afterwards back to
AdobeRGB

the profile has been created with Roughprofiler, which I've used before to
make profiles.
Also i just installed a gracol 2013 profile which showed up fine under my profiles.

I deleted the profile, and created it again, same result, it only shows up under assign profile.

While this may not be*a topic for beginners, it's not a technical argument.*

You'd assign the scanner profile to the scan, assuming it's in that color space and the scanner can't tag it as such. THEN convert to Adobe RGB (1998).

On my own scanner i scan without a profile
open in photoshop and assign the scanner profile
and then convert to Adobe RGB (1998)
this works perfect.

For my current job I recieve scans from a 3th party, who's scans are Adobe RGB (1998) but not callibrated.
I had them scan an it8.7 target for me (they supplied it as Adobe RGB (1998). and i made the profile from that.

Am I misunderstanding I can still assign/convert my profile to make their scan match the print?

No, they are in Adobe RGB (1998).
You may have a scan from them of an iT8 but IF it's also in Adobe RGB (1998), you're done and cannot profile it (it's in Adobe RGB (1998)).

Interesting.

As a beginner in color management, I assumed that as long as a print and the IT8 target are scanned the same way (regardless of assigning a profile or not).
I could create a profile that makes the colors correct (for now not taking in consideration of the paperbase) by making a Ti3 file from the scan, and the data of the original reference file .it8 for that IT8 target.
And apply that profile to the print scan.
