I scanned an old family photo in grayscale that originally had a sepia tone to it. How can I produce a sepia tone in PS6?

Try this: with the photo open and set to RGB in mode setting, add blank layer, fill with Focoltone # 2191 from custom color pallete, set this layer blending mode to overlay. Also see the software section of this site for a description and examples of some software plug ins which will take the sepia tone look to very nice levels. Hope this helps. You could also try changing the mode to duotone and playing around with the colors there. Tom

There are many, many ways to sepiatone in Photoshop, including a sepiatone action (look in actions pallette)

You use a pair of Hue/Saturation adjustment layers. The lower layer is set to Color blend. The uper layer is left a Normal blend. Instead of setting Saturation to -100 for the upper layer, you instead set Hue...

I hope I'm in the correct forum now for asking a question about color. What Ed said about grayscale converting is interesting, but I don't know what it means. So, I ask the following questions and ask if they are in any way related:

My questions today would be - is there an easy way...

I was wondering what everyones method of a picture with a sepia tone? Not just a over all color change but with the outside of the picture darker then the middle. I know the basic way but it doesn't look right. Thanks!

          by sergio2263
          Hello All,

I am looking for a good tutorial of converting a black and white photo to sepia tones. I know there are lots on the net, but I haven't found one that I like, so I thought i give it a try here and see who can tell me where I can get a very good sepia tone.
