Does anybody know of any scanning info sites beside the Wayne Fulton one and of course specific manufacturers pages. Of course quite a bit of info lies on this site but perhaps there's sites I've missed

Chris,
That's all I know of, but if you're interested in a mailing list which has some *very* knowledgeable people, I'm giving you a link for a few lists, one of which is scanning. Here it is:

I subscribe to an excellent (and huge) email list for filmscanners only. If interested, send an email to [email protected] with a message SUBSCRIBE FILMSCANNERS (no subject)Learn by teaching

Doug, Are there any archives to that list? And are they discussing the Nikon Super Coolscan 4000 at all? (Among other things today, I've been researching my next film scanner - even though I have no plans to buy one in the near future. Which basically means I've done almost nothing "useful" today. :p) But, that 4000 looks pretty spectacular if it lives up to the hype.

I do not see any reference to an archive, but the owner's homepage is here (I'm sure he won't mind if you ask).
As for the Nikon, there is tons of discussion. It is a huge list, almost overwhelming. There is a weekly digest version (the previous week's posts in one email) which I'm thinking of converting to (although it makes responding very difficult).Learn by teaching

by chris hDJ,
Have you managed to find any interesting groups on Usenet. I thought I'd mention it here as perhaps other people are not aware of the information available. I've yet to find a group with any specific retouching ethos though.-

by Ed_LI have a 4 x 5 neg from around 1924 that I scanned in both 8 bit, and 16 bit per channel. The scan needed a lot of tonal adjustment, due to the condition of the neg. I expected to see a pretty good difference in the histograms for the two files after making 15 - 20 tonal adjustments (some pretty steep)....

I'm sure you've all noticed the ugly little banner at the bottom left of every page. This is Amazon.com's "Honor System" service.
I've had a lot of people recommend I join this service, but I fought...-
