This old barn sketch

These images I did in PhotoShop and are a variation of a technique described in the tutorial I posted here at RetouchPro. I use no actions because each photo is deferent so you get deferent results when you use them. The only time I do use actions is to save repeated steps. I overlaid the original color photo layer for my color. Set layer-blending mode to (Color) and increase the Hue\Saturation a bit.

I like the colored version best. It's like some old shack in the bayou somewhere. That spanish moss on the trees add to the rustic look. I think the colored version brings out details that get lost in the black and white version. Really pretty work.

I gave myself a Thanksgiving challenge to try to come close to your version of the B/W sketch of your cabin..After many hours of experimenting, I can get close but I can't produce the fine detail that is in your sketch..

I was wondering if you produced your version of the B/W sketch with a higher resolution picture (right from the camera) than the one you posted in your gallery. If this is the case, I then will know that I did my best with the picture..

The higher the resolution the more fine detail in the final images.
And yes, because of the web the images I posted is low dpi (72) I work with 180-300 dpi.

Both barn pics are great, Stephen. I slightly prefer the b/w since it reallllly looks like a pencil sketch.

Chuck, good job on your sketch. It has more overall color than Trimoon's but it's a different look and is excellent on its own merits. You seem to have mastered his soft pencil sketch method. I tried it, but didn't have much luck, as I lack the patience needed.
