  • Creative interpretations: Lion just hanging out

    What a life... Taking a little rest by the river.

    Happy creating!

    My compliments to the photographer. This is a great shot.

    Don--I like the texture in the fur. Also, the effect gives good emphasis to the lion.

    I'm on an impressionist kick. This time I was playing with textures from the paper choices as well as the emboss effect in the filter. I put a gaussian blur sketch on top to bring back a little detail.

        Hi everyone,

        Nice kitten here but I agree with svsg, a not so easy photo-art image.

        Don : it looks as if the lion sits in the middle of a waterfall. I would have liked a bit more detail in his body though. I had the same problem. The left part became too white with all the consecutive layers. I tried to get back some detail with masking some parts out.

        1 = background=off
        2 = copy bg + usm + cutout 7-0-3
        3 = copy layer 2 / multiply
        4 = impressionist-spattery water/ overlay
        5 = copy bg-desat-invert-aniso/ color dodge + mask
        6 = selective color adjustment layer
        7 = copy bg + original to paint details in eyes and paws back in

          I forgot to mention your entries Cheryl and Don,

          Cheryl good work on the textures. Did you use different textures on different parts of the pic?

          svsg : did you use the gimp here? It gives a sort cartoony look.

            Gina--nope, the textures came from impressionist and I added a slight emboss on effects. Since the strokes were varied, it gave the effect of varied texture.

              Gina, Your version is nice... I used gimp, that is the only program I have. Is the cartoony look good or bad?

                Nice photo with some nice versions.

                Cropped and did an unsharp mask. Did a little Paint Engine and added a pattern layer.

                  Hi everyone,

                  nice render too Catia.

                  svsg : not necessarily bad or good. It was more my first impression I had of it. I went looking for the gimp for windows but when they start putting warnings on the page like : when the program doesn't work do this or .... I'll wait till they get the bugs out
                  Can you compare it with photoshop or paintshop pro?? If we put a description in we do to get to an image, can you relate that to the gimp or what??

                  see ya

                    This is from a watercolor action by Mike Finn. All my contribution was to clean up where colors overlapped and made a new layer and blended it into the old with opacity setting for details.
                    Thanks

                      Lucis and Redfields Bas Relief faded and blended in.

                        Peter, you are really good at finding all the old images that haven't been worked on for years. I think I like your use of the Bas relief and Lucas -- I love the detail retained in the lion and the abstracting of the background. The lion does look like s/he could have been carved in stone (or turned to stone by some wizard mouse). But he could break free from the rock and pounce on the next butterfly that lights on his nose...
