  • Impressionist plugin: Running it on a Macintosh

The Microsoft Impressionist plugin is only available in a PC version, but there may be hope for adventurous Mac users. Here's a possible workaround suggested by Mac user, MG:

In theory one could install Virtual PC on the Mac, then a Windows version of Photoshop Elements, Jasc PaintShop Pro or any image editor that accepts Photoshop plugins and the Impressionist plugin with its support files.

Note: This is an unconfirmed method. In theory it should work.

If anyone has done this, please share your experiences and suggestions.

Thanks, MG, for floating the idea.

It works! I have used the Impressionist plugin in both PhotoShop and PhotoShop Elements using VPC with Windows98 and WindowsXP on my 17" iMac (800 MHz). Performance is slow but useable. Elements with Windows98 seems a bit faster than other combinations.

I do all the prep in OS X, switch to VPC to run the plugin, then switch back to OS X to finish the project.

A big welcome and may I say that was a totally awesome first post.

Greatly appreciate the confirmation and details regarding the successful combinations.

An A+ tidbit and great news for Mac users.
