    Try this one out. I'm looking for a good looking guy in his 50s, but haven't found a good pic yet.

    Creative Portraits: Lady with a Rose
    by ahutton
    One of my favorite passtimes is to take antique photos and turn them into modern portraits, with an artistic flare. Here's an old pic of a lady with a rose. And what I did with it. See what you can do to turn this into something a litle more exciting.

    I did mine with buzz, a heavy canvas...

    Creative interpretations: San Diego Market
    by DannyRaphael
    San Diego is a lovely California city on the Pacific Ocean, just north of the U.S./Mexico border. This photo by T.Hinov is of one of the local fresh produce markets.

    Happy creations.

    Creative interpretations: Portrait - Richard, the smiling kid
    by DannyRaphael
    Happy looking kid, probably because he knows he won't have to pay for his own groceries for another 13 years or so!

    Here's a chance to apply your color correcting skills while you're at it.

    Happy creating!

  • Creative Portraits: Redhead with an Attitude

    This pose makes one wonder what she's thinking...

    Then again maybe we don't want to know.

    Hi-res source: http://www.sxc.hu/browse.phtml?f=download&id=780511

    ==========

    My interpretation:
    * lighten eyes a bit: Apply Levels adjustment layer, close it, Ctrl + I (to invert). Airbrush white on mask around eyes to reveal Levels effect.
    * Flatten
    * Duplicate Background
    * Impressionist > Charcoal > Default
    * Duplicate Background again and drag duplicate to top of layer stack
    * Impressionist > Charcoal > Default (brush size = 25%)
    * Add "hide all" Layer Mask
    * Airbrush white on the Layer Mask using Chalk 36 brush around eyes and mouth to restore details in these areas
    * Select > All
    * Edit > Copy merged
    * Create new layer
    * Edit > Paste
    * Duplicate Background again and drag duplicate to top of layer stack
    * Add "hide all" Layer Mask
    * Airbrush (very low opacity) white on the Layer Mask to restore details where needed
    * Select > All
    * Edit > Copy merged
    * Create new layer
    * Edit > Paste
    * Apply texture of choice

        Wow... killer effect.

        PC version of SA expected by end of 2007. It will be the gift I buy for myself.

            A Mondriaan interpretation.

            First I have to say bravo Kiska. I really like the way the fill idea worked here. Since I'm lazy, decided to use just filters today. DCSpecial's ICE4 and GIMP Dilate filter for this compilation. Here's the complete rendering (a little over 1MByte; attached is a cropped and compressed version).

              Re: Creative Portraits: Redhead with an Attitude

              Wow, some terrific renditions here! Kiska, especially like your SA version. Danny, great Impressionist work. Pavel, nice texture.

              For my version, began with Snap Art Oil (different settings for face). Followed with many layers, playing with different blending modes. Did some freehand brush work on the eyes and face and finished with a 50% gray overlay to adjust highlights and shadows.

                Re: Creative Portraits: Redhead with an Attitude

                way too many steps to list. in general, some dodge and burn, airbrush, push, blends, brightness/contrast and a kitchen sink.

                  Mondriaan revisited.

                  Learned a lot of tricks since I last did this and wanted to better respect Mondriaan.

                    Pretty neat Lyle. Mine is the kitchen sink effect, lost track but used lots of things.

                      That's cool John and thanks for the words. You inspired me to convert my last effort into a splash guard tile.

                        Lyle, can I inspire you to do more?? I never cease to be amazed by what you come up with. :-)

                        I went with a high-key something-or-other.
