Quite the contratry !! It was your smudge brushes.

It was supposed to become a painting, like I said - got detoured.

Peter, care to share your technique, please? I especially would like to know how you achieved the results in your second one.

Everyone has done a great job.
I really like Swampy's, and Cindy's (thanks for the explanation).
              Here is mine.

This started out as a smudge of the bride but ended up being about the tree.

Sorry its taken a while to answer this, but there has been a lot of posts lately and I just didn't notice.

Well it was Palms who gave me the idea when she mentioned losing the detail of the dress, so i duped the BG again and moved it to the top of the stack and tried a fake HDR on it. That brought out the details in the dress but the rest I didn't like so I masked them out and faded slightly, ALT/Merged visible to a new layer played with the levels and colours, and I think I added a slight vignette to darken the edges a little just to emphasize the bride a bit more, oh yes then added the texture I used on the first post.

Thank you so much, Peter, for responding. And 'thank you' to Palms too for inspiring Peter to arrive at his rendition. I hope that I'll have some time soon to experiment with the technique because IMHO I love it! Thanks again Peter.

This is such a pretty picture, I had to see what I could come up with and ended up with something other than I was intending..that happens a lot to me.
