  • Creative Portraits: Brother and Sister - Contributed by Legacy

Legacy-Art (aka Elle) contributed this photo on behalf of a friend.

CHALLENGE: Use your best pencil, chalk or sketch-type technique.

    She requests:
    * No distorted/abstract interpretations
    * To only post interpretations here at RetouchPRO, not at other websites, including your own.

She (and I) would appreciate it.

    Happy creating.

    ~Danny~

I meant to start this thread sooner.

Sometimes I can be a bit slow.

Since this ended up being a 27 layer "I have no idea where I'm going with this" file, I'll spare you the marathon writeup.

I did use a top layer of white (with a layer mask added) and Chalk brush 36 px to paint black onto the layer mask to render sort of a sketchy/grain effect.

Multiple layers of hand drawn chalk and charcoal on this with subtle blends and opacity changes. Also a lot of work with the eraser.

Danny you sneaked that in, that is absolutely gorgeous!!! Charcoal is better than pencil sometimes isn't it?

Cardmnal that is very nicely done!!!

Very nice high fives to both Danny and Cardmnal for their work.

Danny, the 27-layer-I-have-no-idea-where-I'm-going-with-this sounds too familiar to laugh. In any case, you done good!

Cardmnal, I like the chalky/charcoal effect. Looks like I'm going to have to play with that technique some.

Hi, such a loving big sister!

I used Xero filters here, supersmooth, lithograph, and lineart, after adjusting levels and saturation, then added a texture. Still not what I'd like, that dark sweater just isn't coming out well. But their sweet faces are what's important!

Colored Pencil Sketch of two cute children

Hi there - hopefully the image will behave and upload this time. I inverted original image, changed to color dodge blend and then blurred this. Then some dodging and burning. MargaretM

This was cloned with a calligraphic grainy pen(modified) in painter8, next brought into ps7, layer multiply-blended, and angled strokes, low opacity, applied to it.

                              Pencil Portrait..

                              HI all.
Danny - thanks for your welcome. Florida is great this time of year - except for the yellow pollen - and the Spring Breakers.
From all the great renditions here I know I need Painter ( also need a sugar daddy!)
This pencil sketch is basically the same technique as the colored pencil one - jst done in greyscale with extra dodging and burning.
