  • combining different lit photos?

    Hi,
a client wants me to combine two photos. Problem is they are differently lit.
Is there a way to change the light on the boy so its more like his mom?
or should i just leave it and tell her it cant be done?

    thanks

    Re: combining different lit photos?

This is doable with doge and burning - be very careful of the colors you use though, avoid pure black and white, make sure it has the same hue as the skin area you are working on, then apply a curves layer set to luminance blending mode, adjust saturation sepratley if you need too. If the boy were not lit from the front, this would be much more difficult to do.

I've applied color match to faces selections, curves adjustment, selective HSL & levels adjustments. Needs some DB, I guess.

Of course the boy's skin tones could be matched better.

The problem is the shadow is too different using one or two lights

            Thanks all.

I did some D&B to bring it closer.

                  thanks again all.
i decided its better not to combine both photos , there are too differently lit.
I see there is room for adjustment. thanks for showing me that.

                    Re: combining different lit photos?

First I seperated the two photos and did a levels adjustment on both. Then used the photo filter to match the coloring. Fliped the boys phot and removed him from his background. Then put a black mask over both.

I like the look of the black and white. Good job!

Of course they are. The lighting is different enough to drastically alter highlights in texture detail for one. You also never mentioned which you intended to use as the reference when it comes to matching the other. You have virtually no chance of extracting detail from the shadows on the woman, so if you wanted to match her photo to the kid, much of it would be painted in the end due to the sheer amount of stuff that couldn't be compensated via adjustments. There is also the issue of matching color palettes.

That looks like you went somewhat in between with a different combination, and it worked.

                              I Like your final result

Just for fun I tried a couple multiply layers on just the boy using a gradient mask.. free transformed him to be a bit smaller and rotated some....adjusted colors to come close to moms colors by adding a hue/Sat layer and curves layer... ... combined all the boy fixes into one layer .... then added a layer beneath all working layers with the same color as the moms background and then masked around the boy for the background to show through
