  • A List of Photoshop Questions

HI! I'm here to ask question again. Sorry if this was SO MANY and may even seems STUPID and outta place. I just wanna compile questions so connecting online would be more affordable right bec. I'm still a modem user. hehe.
    1. Is there a way to create a background of color that is not either plai white or plain black but is adctually a mixture of two colors applied to the whole document not only left border black and then whole page white. What I mean is that THE WHOLE image is colored RED or BLUE together? Can you teach me how? Also as a challenge can u make a background that animates or sorta moves?
    2. Do you know of a forum where you can ask for Java sourcecode because I'm sorta a programmer in computer science course.
3.Do you know of a software that converts mp3 to wav and vice versa.
4.I would like to suggest that here in the retouchpro that you create a chatroom that stores users so they can interact with each other.
5.Why is it that I can see only plugins that features or uses bevel in that they only bevels up only the edges. is there a way to bevel the center of the image as a portrait like style.
6.I would like to ask is there a site that offers a free update from photoshop 6 to photoshop 7? One should recommend that to Adobe that they create exe for those exes. I suggested this because it is too costly to buy another photoshop for only 1 update right?
7.When you creates graphics in website my friend says jpg are better but isnt it gif are far more superior than jpg right? Pls. comment.
Thanks for reading and answering my enormous questions. Thanks to you all! Peace! and God Bless!

I'm not completely sure I understand what you're asking. Red and blue together make magenta...

If you're talking about photoshop, just create a document and fill it with the color you want to use as your background. If you're talking about website graphics, you might look on some sites that deal with that specifically...

    2. Do you know of a forum where you can ask for Java sourcecode because I'm sorta a programmer in computer science course.
There are tons of websites out there that supply Java source codes. A google search will probably help you out on that one.

3.Do you know of a software that converts mp3 to wav and vice versa.
Again, I'd suggest doing a google search

4.I would like to suggest that here in the retouchpro that you create a chatroom that stores users so they can interact with each other.
That's one's up to Doug. For me, interacting via forum posts and PMs works great since I don't have much time to sit and chat...

5.Why is it that I can see only plugins that features or uses bevel in that they only bevels up only the edges. is there a way to bevel the center of the image as a portrait like style.
When I want to bevel or add shadow to some element in the center of an image, I select it and copy it to a new layer. Things like bevel, shadow, etc., can only find the absolute edges of the element. When I want to do facial shadows and things like that, I have to actually make them with a paintbrush just like any painter would...

It would be illegal for a site to offer free updates since Adobe is in the business of selling Photoshop and Photoshop is copyrighted material. Upgrades are a great deal cheaper than buying an entire program.

7.When you creates graphics in website my friend says jpg are better but isnt it gif are far more superior than jpg right? Pls. comment.
Since this is a restoration and retouching forum, this is really not my specialty. For restoration & retouching, I deal almost exclusively with TIFF and JPEG. Again, you might do a google search or join a newsgroup that deals specifically with website graphics information...

      Re: a list of questions!

Garfield, A lot of your questions seem to be related to websites which I don't know that much about. You will probably get more information on your website-related questions at a forum dedicated to web development. Unfortunately, I don't know of one off-hand, but you can probably find something in a google search. (I would start with "web development forum" and see what you get.)

That being said, I'll try to answer what I can:

Are you asking this question about a background (layer) in Photoshop or a background for a webpage? And what do you mean that the whole image is colored red and blue together? Like Jak said, that would make magenta if the two colors are flat, but you could "render clouds" in Photoshop to get an effect where the two colors blend into each other in a mottled look. I'm not really sure what you're asking though. If you want to animate anything, you'll have to use GIF format (or a Flash movie?), but depending on how big your background is, that may be too big a file to load quickly on a website (assuming you want a background for a website.)
      2. Do you know of a forum where you can ask for Java sourcecode because I'm sorta a programmer in computer science course.
3.Do you know of a software that converts mp3 to wav and vice versa.
      I don't know. I would try a google search.
4.I would like to suggest that here in the retouchpro that you create a chatroom that stores users so they can interact with each other.
I don't know if it's possible, but I know that I probably wouldn't be able to participate much - I don't have enough time and I find that whenever I have questions, they get answered quite quickly in these forums anyway.
5.Why is it that I can see only plugins that features or uses bevel in that they only bevels up only the edges. is there a way to bevel the center of the image as a portrait like style.
Like Jak said, you can only bevel edges. So, if you have a "hole" in the middle of your image, that will allow a bevel to happen in the middle. But if you're referring to portraits, I wonder if something like the Stylize->Emboss filter might be what you want? I would run it on a duplicate layer, then set the layer blending mode to overlay or soft light and adjust the opacity of the layer. That may not be enough of the effect for what you want though.
6.I would like to ask is there a site that offers a free update from photoshop 6 to photoshop 7? One should recommend that to Adobe that they create exe for those exes. I suggested this because it is too costly to buy another photoshop for only 1 update right?
If there is a site that offers free PS updates, it is not legal. (I have to admit that I find this question a bit odd coming from someone who lives in the Philippines.) As for Adobe offering free updates, there are many, many engineering hours (not to mention manufacturing and marketing) that go into producing an update. It is not free for Adobe to create, so why should they offer free updates?
7.When you creates graphics in website my friend says jpg are better but isnt it gif are far more superior than jpg right?
In general, JPG is better for photos and GIF is better for images with large areas of solid colors as well as animation.

        Question

Well if you did use background layer and save it as jpeg then you can also use that as a website background right? Isn't it using photoshop you can also create background for website. What I think I mean is blend two colors in which both colors can still be seen even if it is on only one background.,like sorta a tile.Yes, thanks for the bevel correction there. Emboss is something of what I want. About the updates, well, my friend just suggested that since it is costly to bought one right? I didnt mean that as an insult. What is mottled btw?

          Re: Question

          Yes, that's true.
What I think I mean is blend two colors in which both colors can still be seen even if it is on only one background.,like sorta a tile.
Oh - a tile effect. OK, I think what you'd need to do is have two layers, one of each color. Then create a layer mask on the top layer that is a black and white tile. That will allow the bottom layer to show through were the mask is black. Then flatten and save as a file that you can use for a website background. The trick is to make the black and white tile for the mask. Seems like there must be a "trick" to make it easy, but I can't think of it at the moment.
About the updates, well, my friend just suggested that since it is costly to bought one right?
It's $150 for the PS7 update. And yes, I think that is more costly than other image editing programs. Some of that is because of it's capabilities and some (I think) is because it has positioned itself in the professional market which will always be higher priced than the consumer market. My point was that if you look at everything that was added to PS7 from PS6, it obviously took a lot of engineering time (= $$), so it wouldn't make sense for Adobe to offer it free. Plus, Adobe has obviously found enough customers willing to pay the price of the software to meet (and possibly exceed) its financial goals. So, as long as enough people are willing and able to pay the price as it stands now, it is unlikely that it will drop.

My comment about you being in the Philippines is a reference to the fact that there are many knock-off (meaning illegal) copies of software being sold there, are there not? Sorry if that seems flippant - it's not meant to be accusatory, just inquisitive. It's just that I know SE Asia in general has lots of (illegal) software that is easy to get. (In fact, my experience in Viet Nam is that when you are sold a computer, the seller installs all software for free - and it's all illegal copies.) The bottom line is, a legal copy of the software costs $$; anything free or nearly free is almost guaranteed to not be legal.
          What is mottled btw?
Not knowing how to describe it, I turned to my dictionary: "covered with spots or streaks of different shades or colors."

            Re:

have you thought of the easier way because I agree in that the steps are a little too many. Thanks for finally understanding this, because I just can't explain well, thanks!

              Garfield,

I'm sure there are many of us who won't understand what you're referring to. Please give more information, or if this should be a reply to an existing thread, post it there. Otherwise you'll probably not get the answers you're looking for.

Garfield, if you are asking me if I've come up with a better way to tile two colors, not really. I did a quick search using google and came up with this possibility. Perhaps that will get you what you want.
