  • FFT partial banding problem

I've got an old picture that is on photographic silk paper, it has the honeycomb texture. I used the FFT plugin. It does a brilliant job of removing the pattern except for an area on the top and bottom of the picture which has retained the still has the pattern and some horizontal lines. I have experimented in removing the starbursts a few ways but can not figure out how to prevent this problem.

Any suggestions or insight as to why this is happening?

    Re: FFT partial banding problem

Try to expend the canvas & then apply the FFT. It works for me (most of the time)

Thanks for the suggestion. I just tried it but it I still have the same problem.

You could also divide the pic into small pieces & use image analyzer, it gives better control.

I tried IA recently for a large image and it coped beautifully with an image of 6000 pixels wide. The limit on the FFT Photoshop plugin can be annoying as that works fairly well too. So if you need it large switch to IA.

IA? I don't think I am familiar, what is it?

IA stand for Image Analyzer. It is by Meesoft and there is a free version of it.

                Using Neat Image

Instead of using fft, I used Neat image which seemed to help. There are still several localized color problems in the image.

                  Re: FFT partial banding problem

I already finished the image. I was able to use the FFT by sectioning off the image but this I had to do by trial and error with different sized sections until finally I got something that worked. It's still nice to know of other alternaties. I do find that the FFT plugin for photoshop crashes often even if the size is within its limitations. Thank for your time and information.

                    FFT problem. Some idea?
                    by Florin
Hi everybody. I have again one of these damaged picture to retouch. It has a global texture which must be removed so I used very carefuly the FFT filter, like always I'm doing. However, the final resoult still presents some horizontal line patterns as you can see in the attached sample. I did this 3...

                    FFT Banding
                    by Liz
Many times when I use the FFT filter I end up with banding across the top and bottom of the photo.

I usually apply a 1" grey border around the photo before applying the filter, but it just doesn't seem to stop this banding.

Has anyone experienced this and been able...

                    by Scrappy
                    Hi there,
My name is Jim from Japan.
                    Recently, I found this filter.
Then, after installing, put it on the scanned file, looks different.
I'm using CS5. Is there any mistake?
open a file, run FFT filter.
                    It look below this.

How can I fix this problem....

I'm trying the FFT Tutorial and it's all good until I apply the IFFT. I get these crazy blotchy patterns. Can anyone help?

                    FFT greyed out
                    by Liz
                    Hi,
Big fan of FFT and it happily does the right thing on my work computer. On my home laptop with CS3, FFT is greyed out under filters.

I copied and pasted both FFT and IFFT into (through the Adobe Path) Filters. Shut down, restart, open Photoshop...it can see it but it's greyed...
