  • fire damage family photo from the 70's

Hello! One of my clients home recently burned down. the were able to save a handful of photos... but this one in particular is very important. im having a hell of a time attempting to get the color right as its so dingy and dark. If anyone has any techniques they would care to share with me I would appreciate it. I figure I should get the coloring better before I start removing the spark marks and smoke damage on the photo.

    eeh help!

Here is my take. Auto-color does a good job on this image. After that, some cloning and healing, some more curves, saturation adjustment, noise reduction and a bit sharpening.
The resulting colors don't look bad, presumably because all channels contain valuable data.

My quick 5-minute go at it. Of course, the image size limits full corrective effects...
spot-healing; curves adjustments, and even some levels per channel.

I found PS auto corrects (tone, contrast, color) to work remarkably well on this image. I also adjusted the levels in each rgb channel independently to even out the mid-tones and shadows. Work in the highest resolution possible, as the compression artifact damage was very noticeable between the channels.

              Severely damaged color photo

              Hello,
First time poster here. I have a group photo taken in the 80's that has been damaged by humidity. It was scanned at high res and sent to me for possible clean up. I'm using the latest Photoshop version from the Creative Cloud. I'm familiar with the Spot Healing, Healing Brush and Patch...

              Old family photo
              by bvdwielen
The people on the photo are my grandparents on the left side and my grandfather's family to the right.
Unfortunately the picture is very low res and I'm struggeling quit a few problems with it. The most horrible one is ofcourse the lack of information due to the JPG compression and therefore...

              Mildew/mold on photo
              by judyb
              Hi All,

I ran across this photo in our family mess of photos and am trying to figure out how to restore it in Photoshop CS5. I have others that part of the photo has been somewhat destroyed by what looks like the pox, but I assume is some sort of mold, breaking down of emulsion, or something....

              Can you fix my mom?
              by RoyceH
I'm usually taking pictures (roycehutain.com ) not fixing them. I use photoshop everyday to adjust curves, levels, etc. but I want to get better at fixing old photos. I got this one from my mom and decided to try and fix it. I opened it in PS and just stared at it. I have no idea where to start!...

              Photo frustrations...
              by Brent H
I've been working with this image all day now, and I can't seem to get it to do what I want to do.

For the most part, I'm able to restore large portions of the picture pretty easily, but the tree on the left, the fence on the right and the boy's skin tones keep coming out weird....
