  • Beautiful old photo for restoration practice

I stumbled across this image while searching for something else using Google's Usage Rights Image Search.

I was struck by how beautiful it was, and I've been a fan of Evelyn Nesbit since I saw her played by Elizabeth McGovern in Ragtime.

It's a 24MB tif file from the Library of Congress. I thought you'd like to restore it and attach your results in this thread for everyone to enjoy.

That's a beautiful image Doug! Thanks for posting it here!
Gary did a great job on that one.

I've got to spend more time on the video and try that technique on this image... it is quite lovely!

A beautiful photo and a tough restore. I found that copying the layer and using the multiply blending mode brought back a lot of pleasing contrast. After that, I went through this photo twice. On the first pass I used the various healing brush tools and the clone tool to get ride of the "big spots." The next time around I copied that layer and used a fairly strong median blur filter with a layer mask and worked on the mask to remove some of the other spots.

There are numerous spots left but I didn't want to blur the important parts of the image.
