  • Help Again

My son sent me this picture of his father who had passed away. The picture is in bad shape I'm trying to get it to look better but it's not working. This is the only picture he has of his father.

    thank you

I'm trying to upload the one I've started. I used curves to lighten then a gradient behind it looked a little better it's the splotches all over it that's difficult.

Thank you Joe, it's one of those instant kodak pictures I think from the '70s and it's not in the best of shape. I can't seem to upload the one I have been working on. It's a tough one

Denoised somewhat, adjusted the skin colours, darkened the BG, sharpened and added back some noise.

        Cheers.

That's amazing, I'm kinda glad I can't post what I did these are truly amazing. How did you get the blotches out and get that amazing color in all of them. Did you use curves?

                  Re: Help Again

I forgot exactly how I did it but here is a rough idea. Usually the first thing I do is to restore color and luminosity. So for starters I used a curves adjustment layer. I then stamped the two layers and started over. I looked at each of the channels and the green layer was by far the best so On the layer above I placed the green layer and used luminosity as the blend mode. I made a selection of "dad" and placed him on a separate layer and underneath dad I put a layer filled with gray to adjust the color of dad and fiddle with the saturation and stuff. I used the healing tools to remove blemishes and fixed him up as well as I could. I fiddled with the chair to dad's left and the wooden background. The junk side on dad's right I just filled with black.

Very impressed with the job you did on this philbach, looks super smooth and realistic.
