  • Tape on old photo, how to remove using PS?

    Hi,

I scanned an old photo but there's a spot of a piece of tape. It seems something I could correct by modifying colour settings in PS but I have no clue how. Does anybody have any tips? Photo included as attachment... Thanks!

Heal edges. And darken the rest

Thanks Tulack. How should I darken it? And should I do it all on the same layer or use different layers?

There is thousand ways to darken it. Curves for example. Do it as you wish.

As others have mentioned there are several ways to do it. What I did was to make a selection of the white area. I feathered the edges of the selection by about 7 pixels. Then I copied that layer to a new layer. To the new layer I clipped a curves adjustment layer and used that to match the luminosity.

To smooth out the edges I used the clone tool to keep the grain intact.

(Removing Tape) - I find using the patch tool, on a blank layer is quite a goo method to remove tape. I would then change the blend mode to darken or lighten, now this depends on the luminosity and colour of the tape.

I will also use other cloning tool combined with selections, to completely remove the tape. but really it depends on the scan/image you are restoring.

(Repairing the luminosity values of the tape) - you can use levels and curves on the luminosity blend mode to tonal and luminance match the tape to the surrounding areas in the scan/image.

I have an old photo of my mother and some of her friends standing in front of an old car which I have just found out is a Jowett Javelin. The photo was in very poor condition and I've basically had to piece it back together again. The problem I have is that I need to blend the parts together to make...

Hi all. I have an old family photo (ca. 1900). It appears to be a large sepia albumen print on heavy card stock.

The photo split down the middle many decades ago, and a long-gone relative used what seems to be (are you sitting down?) black electric tape to "repair" it. ...

                by jrag1968
Hello, Can any one suggest a method to remove the orange spots from this scanned photograph?
I already used the Fade Correction tool on the original scan, which makes
                the orange spots more visible.
                Thanks....
